The Origin of One Hundred Biographies

The motivation behind this blog comes in the form of a story, that may or may not be completely true. It was told to mequite a few years ago, and explained with such authority that it it had instantly gained credibility in my books. I have retold the story so many times, probably embellishing parts, probably omitting parts, that I can’t say for sure what has been of my own imagination for dramatic effect and what actually transpired. However, it doesn’t really matter. I will tell the story as I know it, being as faithful to the original as I can.

A friend of mine’s boyfriend’s father was traveling in Australia on business. He was in sales, herbal vitamins I believe. It was definitely herbal something. He was staying in a nice hotel and by some means that I cannot recall, had discovered that the richest man in Australia was staying in the same hotel as he was. Excited to hear the news, he had left a message with the front desk for him, requesting a meeting to hopefully pick up some secrets to his success. The next day, my friend’s boyfriend’s father had gone down to check his messages and found that the wealthiest person in Australia had left a reply.  The note said that regretfully, he was in a rush and had to decline the meeting. However, he told him that if he wanted to discover the secret to his success, he should read one hundred biographies.  Then he would know what it took to become truly successful.

So That is the gist of the story. The reason why this story has had such an impact on me is that probably like you (if you have gotten this far), most of us strive to achieve great things, but we don’t always know the best way to go about our mission, whatever it may be. Sometimes we get lost, sometimes we don’t overcome the challenges to achieve greatness. The One Hundred Biographies Theory, I suppose, is based on the fact that if someone had taken the time to write one, or if someone has been written about in worthy sources, that there are probably elements of success that can be studied. So, the point of this blog is to try to achieve this objective of reading “one hundred biographies.” However, I’ll be making some minor modifications.

In staying true to the essense of “blogging”, I will be trying to include as much current affairs stuff as I can, using blogs, articles of note, videos, audio, and anything else I can get my hands on, and try to keep it as interesting and amusing as I am able to do. During this time, I will be trying to apply these lessons to the things that interest me the most, namely, the markets, the culinary arts, and learning Chinese.

I hope you enjoy your visit here and please check back often.
